Reliable Storage Solutions for Oil, Petrochemical & Water Industries

At LITCO, we specialize in the design, fabrication, erection, and maintenance of welded steel storage tanks in full compliance with API 650, the globally recognized standard issued by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

With 30+ years of expertise in Saudi Arabia’s industrial sector, and as leading API 650 tank manufacturers, we provide end-to-end tank solutions for crude oil, refined products, water, and petrochemical storage. Our API 650 storage tank units are engineered for long service life, safety, and environmental compliance, meeting the stringent requirements of Saudi Aramco, SABIC, and international EPC contractors.

The API 650 Standard – Scope & Importance

The API storage tank standard applies to welded carbon steel, austenitic stainless steel, and duplex tanks designed for storing ambient-temperature and low-pressure liquids. These tanks are used for a range of applications, including petroleum products, water, chemicals, and firewater storage.

To ensure structural integrity, the tanks are designed with features such as hydrostatic testing, corrosion allowances, and considerations for seismic and wind loads. Compliance with these standards guarantees safe storage, environmental protection, and long-term reliability.

API Tank Fabrication Services

Bulk liquid storage in the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors demands vessels engineered to a recognized international standard. LITCO designs, fabricates, and installs API tanks for clients across Saudi Arabia, delivering welded steel storage solutions that comply with the American Petroleum Institute’s codes for atmospheric and low-pressure storage. With decades of fabrication experience serving the Kingdom’s industrial sector, our engineering team produces tanks that meet the structural, safety, and environmental requirements demanded by major operators, EPC contractors, and regulatory bodies alike.

From crude oil and refined product storage to water and chemical applications, LITCO’s API tank capability covers the full lifecycle of a storage asset, from initial design through fabrication, erection, and long-term inspection support.

API Storage Tank Solutions

Our API tank portfolio addresses the distinct design and service requirements set out across the API 650, 620, and 653 standards.

API 650 Storage Tanks

The API 650 standard governs welded carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex tanks for ambient-temperature, low-pressure liquid storage. LITCO fabricates API 650 tank units for crude oil, refined petroleum products, water, and chemical storage, engineered with cone roof, dome roof, or floating roof configurations depending on the stored product and site requirements. Each tank is designed with due allowance for corrosion, seismic loading, and wind loading in line with the code.

API 620 Tanks

For applications involving lower service temperatures or elevated internal pressures beyond the scope of atmospheric storage, LITCO fabricates tanks to the API 620 standard, suited to LPG, ammonia, and other low-temperature or cryogenic storage requirements where API 650 design limits do not apply.

API 653 Tank Repair & Inspection

Existing storage assets require periodic inspection and, over time, repair or reconstruction to remain fit for service. Our API 653 capability covers floor and bottom repairs, roof structure replacement, shell thickness evaluation, foundation and settlement assessment, and re-rating of in-service tanks to extend their operational life.

Custom API Tank Fabrication

Where a project’s storage volume, product characteristics, or site layout call for a solution outside standard configurations, our engineering team develops custom API tank designs, working within the applicable code framework to meet the client’s specific operational and regulatory requirements.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

Our commitment to safety and environmental compliance is paramount in every stage of our operations. We adhere to stringent industry standards and regulations to ensure the well-being of our workforce and the protection of the environment.

– Secondary Containment: Bund walls and dikes per Saudi regulations.
– Floating Roof Seals: To minimize VOC emissions.
– Fire Protection: Foam chambers, sprinklers, and NFPA-compliant systems.
– Access & Safety: OSHA-compliant stairs, handrails, platforms, and grounding systems.

Industries We Serve

LITCO’s API tanks fabrication capability supports a broad range of industrial sectors across Saudi Arabia, including:

• Oil and gas production and refining

• Petrochemical processing and feedstock storage

• Water and utilities, including firewater and desalinated water storage

• Power generation, for fuel oil and demineralized water storage

• Food and beverage, for compliant stainless steel storage applications

Each sector brings distinct product compatibility, capacity, and regulatory considerations, and our engineering team designs every tank around the specific service conditions it will operate under.

API Tank Fabrication Process

LITCO applies a controlled, code-compliant process to every API tank project, from initial engineering through final testing and handover.

Engineering & Design

Every project begins with design calculations and detailed drawings developed in accordance with the applicable API standard, establishing plate thickness, roof configuration, foundation type, and load considerations before fabrication begins.

Material Procurement

Tank plates are sourced in grades such as ASTM A36, A283, A285, and A516, selected based on design pressure and service conditions, with nozzles and fittings procured to match the specified grades. Stainless steel is used where the stored product requires it. All materials are supplied with full mill test certification.

Plate Rolling & Welding

Plates are cut, rolled, and welded using CNC-controlled equipment and certified welding procedures qualified to ASME IX and AWS D1.1, producing shell courses, roofs, and floor plates that meet the dimensional and structural requirements of the governing code.

Inspection & Testing

Completed tanks undergo hydrostatic testing along with non-destructive examination, including ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing, to verify weld integrity. Dimensional surveys confirm roundness, plumbness, and alignment prior to client handover.

Surface Protection

Tanks receive surface preparation and protective coating systems appropriate to the stored product and site environment, along with secondary containment features such as bund walls where required by Saudi regulations and the applicable safety code.
